Assisted Stretch

Your body, your pace.

Our assisted stretch sessions are led by certified yoga therapists.

Experience a profound and therapeutic assisted stretch session, expertly guided by one of our certified yoga therapists. This isn’t just a stretch; it’s a trauma-informed approach designed to help your body unwind and your nervous system settle.

Stress, chronic pain, and past experiences can cause the body to hold tension and guarding patterns. Our assisted stretch sessions gently address chronic tension, helping you reconnect with your body.

  • Your comfort, autonomy, and safety are the highest priority. We always move at your pace, and you’ll be empowered to communicate your needs and boundaries throughout the session.
  • Utilizing principles of yoga therapy and body mechanics, your therapist will gently apply stretches and movements to encourage release in muscles and connective tissue.
  • The focus is on creating a sense of safety and calm in your body, allowing true relaxation to occur. This helps reduce the “fight or flight” response often associated with chronic stress and trauma.

Benefits of Assisted Stretch

Whether you’re looking for relief from pain or tension, to get in touch with your body, or to relax, our assisted stretch sessions can help you get there.

=

Reduced Muscle Tension & Soreness

Our yoga therapists use specialized techniques help muscles relax and release deep-seated tightness and knots, which can significantly relieve chronic discomfort and stiffness.

=

Greater Flexibility & Ease of Movement

During an assisted stretch session, your yoga therapist can safely extend muscles further than you can on your own, increasing the mobility of your joints and the overall flexibility of your body.

By targeting tight or shortened muscles, assisted stretching helps correct muscle imbalances that contribute to poor posture.

=

Stress Reduction

The slow, deliberate movements and breathing techniques offered by your yoga therapist activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the “rest and digest” state), which helps lower stress hormones like cortisol.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be flexible or active?

Everyone comes to assisted stretch with a different amount of flexibility and activity level. One benefit of working with a yoga therapist is an individualized approach. After evaluation, all stretching is done within your normal range of motion to gain flexibility in a safe way.

Our sessions are based on communication. Your yoga therapist will let you know what’s coming next and ask for feedback on how you’re feeling, so you’re never pushed farther than is comfortable.

Is assisted stretch the same as massage?

No. Assisted stretch is performed fully clothed. While massage involves therapeutic manipulation and touch of muscles and connective tissues, our assisted stretch sessions involve you moving your limbs with the assistance of a yoga therapist. In this way, assisted stretch is an extension of physical activity you’re already doing.

I'm an athlete. How can assisted stretch help me?

For you as an athlete, assisted stretching is a targeted tool focused on performance, longevity, and recovery. Our assisted stretch sessions safely guide your muscles beyond your self-stretch capacity, immediately increasing your functional range of motion and allowing for more powerful and efficient movement: whether you need a longer stride, a deeper squat, or a wider throwing arc.

Assisted stretching can accelerate recovery by increasing blood flow to flush out metabolic waste like lactic acid, which drastically reduces muscle soreness (DOMS) so you can return to training sooner.

By identifying and releasing the deep tension and imbalances specific to your sport, assisted stretch serves as a powerful preventative measure, reducing the risk of muscle strains and overuse injuries that could sideline you.
