The Yoga Therapy Process
Intake
During the intake session, you and your yoga therapist discuss your health history and lifestyle and develop a treatment plan. 60-90 minutes in duration to give you plenty of time to ask questions.
Sessions
At your first working session, learn specialized yoga practices adapted for you and get your questions answered. Subsequent sessions are typically spaced two weeks apart so you have time to develop consistency in your home practice. At each session, your yoga therapist tracks the effectiveness of practices for your condition. 45-60 minutes in duration.
Home Practice
Home practice between sessions is key in yoga therapy. Your yoga therapist may provide you visual aids or audio and video recordings of your practice, so you can follow along at home. Practices are short and individualized for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept health insurance?
Yoga therapy is private pay. Health insurance does not contribue to the cost of yoga therapy. There is no billing code for yoga therapy and while we can provide you with a receipt, we cannot provide you with a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit cards and we require a credit card on file.
We are also able to accept FSA/HSA debit cards. You can also reimburse yourself from your FSA/HSA account for our services.
In addition, for those who are eligible, we accept reimbursement from the Connecticut Office of Victim Services Victim Compensation Program.
What are your rates for yoga therapy?
Check out our Rates & Policies section for our rates.
We offer sliding scale on a limited basis. Schedule a phone consultation with us to learn more.
We are also pleased to be a part of the American Specialty Health Fitness Network. Our New Haven and Watertown locations participate in the Silver&Fit Basic, Active&Fit Enterprise, Active&Fit Direct, and Active&Fit Now Programs. Check your insurance or employee benefits for more information on those programs.
Can I do yoga therapy over telehealth?
Yes! We are happy to offer telehealth services. Our work translates well to telehealth and all of our yoga therapists are experienced in offering yoga therapy virtually.
I'm not located in Connecticut. Can I still work with you?
Yes, we are able to provide telehealth services nationally in the US and internationally.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on the client, because symptoms show up differently for each individual.
Our focus is on efficacy and what works for the client, and our job is to choose practices that help you meet your goals as quickly as possible. On average, most of our clients see us for 8 sessions, spaced out over the course of 3-6 months.
Clients who have complex co-occuring health conditions or complex trauma/PTSD typically work with us for longer time periods, 6 months to 2 years.
Your yoga therapist will provide you with a strategy and treatment plan at your first follow-up session.
Sessions start out weekly at first, and then are spaced out to every two, three, or four weeks as yoga practice becomes consistent and our clients start to see symptoms improve.
Clients who practice consistently at home in between sessions typically see faster results, as the work done in-session is reinforced out of session.
Because our yoga therapy services are client-centered and trauma-informed, we are happy to work with you to determine a session frequency that fits your life.
What's the benefit of private yoga therapy over group yoga?
By working with a yoga therapist, our clients are able to experience the benefits of yoga in a short period of time.
Group yoga classes may offer health benefits, but it may take months or years to find a class that helps manage an individual’s symptoms. Group yoga classes are generalized and it’s impossible for a yoga teacher to take everyone’s needs into account when teaching a group class. Unlike yoga therapists, yoga teachers are not necessarily trained in contraindications or in the therapeutic application of yoga.
Because private yoga therapy is personalized, and our focus is on efficacy, our clients shorten the amount of time it takes to “give yoga a try” as part of their healing journey. This personalized attention ensures that every yoga technique is tailored to promote safety and symptom management. This minimizes the risk of exacerbating existing health conditions.
In addition, the one-on-one environment of yoga therapy provides a confidential space to address your sensitive concerns. This may not feel appropriate in a group yoga class setting.
The experience of our clients varies. Most of our clients have never taken a group yoga class and don’t intend to, or had an unsupportive experience in a group yoga class. Some clients are in yoga therapy and take group yoga classes as well. For others, they are starting with private yoga therapy with the goal to be able to take group yoga classes eventually.
